Originally from northwest ND, Noah J. Files has worked in the theatre on both coasts and throughout the Midwest. He earned his MFA in Scenic Design from Minnesota State University, Mankato and a BA in Theatre Arts from Minot State University in Minot, ND.
A true theatre generalist, Noah has been a part of every aspect of theatrical production. He has extensive experience as a Scenic Designer, Scenic Artist, Sound Designer, Props Master, and Technical Director. He has also amassed a large body of work as an actor, most recently as Malcolm Sterling in It’s Getting Tired, Mildred and singing the role of Robert in The Bridges of Madison County.
He is a member of professional organizations USITT, Guild of Scenic Artists, and the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, where he serves as Vice Chair of Design, Technology and Management for Region V. He has previously worked for Des Moines Metro Opera, Colorado Shakespeare Festival, New York Stage and Film, and Western Plains Opera.
Before joining the department at Drake, Noah had previously taught at Northern State University, Wabash College, University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, and Fresno State University. At Drake, Noah teaches Scenic Design, Scene Painting, Sound Design, and other design-related courses.
