Jon Hurdelbrink has been with Drake University's College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences since 2016. Dr. Hurdelbrink teaches economics and is committed to helping students understand how economic principles shape both individual decision-making and broader societal outcomes.
Dr. Hurdelbrink’s teaching centers on the idea that economics is a practical and highly applicable discipline. He emphasizes that understanding how individuals and firms make decisions equips students with tools that extend far beyond the classroom. His goal is not only to ensure students grasp core economic concepts, but also to empower them to apply those ideas in real-world contexts, improving their ability to navigate complex personal, professional, and societal choices.
In the classroom, Dr. Hurdelbrink employs a dynamic and applied approach to learning. Through relevant examples, hands-on experiments, and real-world applications, he encourages students to actively engage with course material and develop strong critical thinking skills. His teaching fosters curiosity and equips students to thoughtfully analyze the economic forces influencing the world around them.
He is actively involved in the academic community as a member of the American Economic Association and Omicron Delta Epsilon, reflecting his commitment to the discipline and to advancing economic education.
