Dr. Seulmin Yang, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Marketing at Drake University’s Zimpleman College of Business. She earned her Ph.D. in Marketing, with a specialization in quantitative marketing, from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. She also holds an M.S. in Statistics from the University of Chicago and a B.S. in Business Administration, summa cum laude, from Chung-Ang University in South Korea. Her research focuses on sustainable products, public policy, and political communication, using empirical and structural modeling approaches grounded in industrial organization. Her programming expertise includes R, Python, and MATLAB.
Her dissertation research examines how public charger accessibility in an urban market affects electric vehicle adoption and whether this effect differs by charger type. Using data from Seoul, South Korea, this research develops a series of structural demand models and explores the implications of the findings, highlighting the importance of distinguishing among charger types when analyzing the effect of public charging infrastructure on urban EV adoption. Her current projects also investigate the relationship between presidential campaign advertising and hate crimes and examine how natural disasters affect EV adoption. She has presented her research at multiple Marketing Science Conferences and has participated in doctoral consortia. Her honors include the Carlson PhD Program DEI Research Grant, the Henrickson Award for research productivity, and a Ph.D. Student Teaching Award. She has taught Principles of Marketing and has supported marketing courses at the undergraduate, MBA, and Executive MBA levels.
