Dr. Yiqing Chen is a Professor of Actuarial Science in the Zimpleman College of Business at Drake University. She received her Ph.D. in Actuarial Science from the University of Hong Kong in 2009. Since then, she has held a tenure-track and subsequently a tenured faculty position at the University of Liverpool, before joining Drake University's Zimpleman College of Business in August 2014.
Her research interests include modeling extreme risks, quantitative risk management, and insurance solvency analysis. She has published 29 papers, including eight inInsurance: Mathematics and Economics, two inAdvances in Applied Probability, and three in theJournal of Applied Probability. As of July 2025, Google Scholar shows that her work has received 1,020 citations in total, resulting in an h-index of 16. Seven of her papers have over 70 citations each, and three have over 100 citations.
She was the principal investigator (PI) of a 2015 individual grant from the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS), and together with the actuarial science group of the University of Iowa, is a PI of a multi-PI Center of Actuarial Excellence(CAE) grant from the Society of Actuaries (SOA) totaling $228,000 for the period 2018-2021.
She currently serves as an Associate Editor forStatistics and Probability Letters(B-ranked on the ABDC list), is on the editorial board of theLithuanian Mathematical Journal, and has served as Guest Editor of two special issues ofRisks.
