Important Information and Costs for Visiting/Non-Degree Students

For Fall 2026, the last day to submit your registration form is Wednesday, August 19th. The last day to add a course is Friday, August 28th. The last day to drop a class without a W is Friday, September 4th.

Non-degree students are limited to 9 credit hours per term (fall, spring, or summer). Some graduate programs have a limit of 6 credit hours per term (fall, spring, or summer) for non-degree-seeking students. Once 24 credit hours have been accumulated, the student will be contacted concerning his/her academic goals, past performance, and intent to seek admission to earn a degree. If the student does not intend to pursue a degree, he/she may continue as a non-degree-seeking student. Hours earned as an unclassified student may or may not apply toward a degree program. For non-degree students who would like to apply for degree-seeking admission, please refer to the admission requirements here.

Non-degree students (unclassified) are held to the same academic standing policy standards as admitted, degree-seeking students.

Non-degree students need to apply for registration every semester they want to take a course. It is required for every semester that we have documentation of what your intentions are.

Eligibility Information

To learn more about eligibility for taking courses as non-degree seeking, please click below.

Additional Information

Visiting Student from Another College/Institution

Students who regularly attend other institutions and register at Drake University for the purpose of earning credit to transfer to their home institution are required to complete the Non-Degree Seeking Registration form.  Visiting students are encouraged to seek course-by-course approval from their home institution prior to registering for specific courses at Drake. You may need to provide copies of your transcripts to verify course prerequisites.

If you are a DMACC or Grand View University student interested in cross-enrolling at Drake, you can learn more about that process here: Cross-Enrollment.

Non-Degree Seeking Student

Individuals who would like to register for a class at Drake but are not interested in pursuing an undergraduate degree please fill out a Non-Degree Seeking Registration form. Formal admission to the university may not be necessary, but you may be required to provide documentation of a high school degree or equivalent.

Former Drake Student Looking to Complete Your Degree

Degree-seeking full- or part-time undergraduates whose studies are interrupted for a period of one or more fall or spring semesters are required to submit a re-enrollment form through the dean's office of the college or school of their last enrollment.

Students are encouraged to begin the re-enrollment process at least two months prior to the beginning of the semester or summer session in which they intend to re-enroll. Returning students who intend to apply for financial assistance are encouraged to submit all required documents by March 1.

Re-enrolling students who have registered at other colleges after leaving Drake must provide official transcripts from all institutions attended. Students are subject to the academic regulations and requirements in effect at the time of re-enrollment.

High School Student Looking to Earn College Credit (PSEO)

Drake University provides students who are currently enrolled in high school and desire the challenge of academic study above and beyond what is available in the high school curriculum with the opportunity of dual enrollment.

Students are eligible to take a maximum of two courses during the fall and spring semesters in day or evening courses and one course per summer semester as visiting students at Drake University while completing their remaining high school graduation requirements. Enrollment in requested courses is subject to course availability. Students in the Visiting Student Program may also qualify under the Post-Secondary Enrollment Options Act for financial assistance.

To qualify as visiting students to take courses while still in high school, students must:

  • Be in their junior or senior year
  • Provide a copy of their high school transcript
  • Rank in the top one-third of their classes
  • Have scored a composite of 115 on the PSAT, 1150 (critical reading and math only) on the SAT, 25 on the ACT PLAN, or 25 on the ACT.

Applicants to this program must complete a Visiting Student Form, available in the Office of Admission or at their high schools, and receive approval from their school counselor.

For more information, contact the Office of Admission or visit the PSEO site.
