Zimpleman College of Business Scholarships

First-Year and Sophomore Zimpleman Students

Current and incoming Zimpleman Undergraduate students who will be entering their freshman or sophomore year of college in the fall enrollment term only.

Scholarship opportunities ranging from $1,000-$4,000 are available for incoming first-year students who have declared a major in actuarial science, possess evidence of exceptional academic performance, and demonstrate financial need.

$3,500 Roger K. Brooks Actuarial Science Scholarship

The Roger K. Brooks scholarship is funded by friends of retired Chairman of AmerUs Roger Brooks. This award is given to Zimpleman College of Business actuarial science majors or students in its actuarial science joint programs.

Program Specifics and Requirements

  • The Roger K. Brooks Actuarial Science Scholarship is a $3,500 award, renewable up to two years through the recipient’s sophomore year.
  • Recipients must be entering first-year actuarial science students at Drake University in the Zimpleman College of Business.
  • Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher.
  • Recipients must remain actuarial science majors for the duration of this award.
  • A FAFSA or an International Student Financial Information Form (ISFIF) is required.

$1,000 Dr. Newt Bowers Endowed Scholarship

The Dr. Newt Bowers Endowed Scholarship was created in honor of emeritus professor of actuarial science Dr. Newt Bowers. This renewable award is given to an actuarial science major.

Program Specifics and Requirements

  • The Dr. Newt Bowers Endowed Scholarship is a $1,000 award, renewable up to four years.
  • Recipients must be entering first-year actuarial science students at Drake University in the Zimpleman College of Business.
  • Recipients must remain in good academic standing.
  • Recipients must remain actuarial science majors for the duration of this award.

The Zimpleman College of Business offers over 35 different donor-funded business scholarships for entering high school or transfer students starting in the fall enrollment term only. The various donor-funded scholarships range from $1,000-$5,000 per year and will be applied to undergraduate tuition. To be eligible, entering first year or transfer students must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in the Zimpleman College of Business.

The Zimpleman College of Business Dean Team Scholars will be immersed in the world of business through exclusive small-group meetings with the Dean of the Zimpleman College of Business during their first semester at Drake.

Program Specifics and Requirements

  • Zimpleman Dean Team Scholars will receive a one-time $500 award for books.
  • Recipients must be entering first-year students at Drake University in the Zimpleman College of Business.
  • Recipients must demonstrate academic excellence with a high school GPA of 3.8 or higher on a 4.0 scale or equivalent. 
  • Priority will be given to those who attend a virtual and/or on-campus event by the application deadline.
  • Recipients must apply and submit a Zimpleman College of Business Dean Team application. This is separate from the Drake University application and the Zimpleman College of Business Scholarship application. 
  • Recipients must submit two video essays with their Dean Team application.

How do I apply for the Business Dean Team?

The Business Dean Team has specific application instructions separate from the unified College of Business Scholarship Application.

Students will be selected and notified by late-March. Students who are selected for the Zimpleman College of Business Dean Team must enroll at Drake by May 1, 2027 to be considered a member of the program.

Participants must be Zimpleman College of Business students and maintain a 3.0 GPA while in the program.

Special consideration will be given to those who are the first person in their immediate family to attend a four-year institution.

The application below will enter you into consideration for all 35 donor-funded business scholarships. Please complete the following before the listed scholarship deadline in order to be considered.

  1. A completed application to Drake University, including all required application materials.
  2. A completed Zimpleman College of Business Scholarship application, including all required application materials. This application must indicate a major of interest to be eligible for certain scholarships and awards.

Apply for the Business Dean Team

Application Deadline: February 18, 2027

The Business Dean Team has specific application instructions separate from the unified College of Business Scholarship Application. Please see below for those requirements and deadlines.

  1. A completed application to Drake University, including all required application materials. A candidate's application for admission must indicate their first-choice major as one of the Zimpleman College of Business degree programs.
  2. Eligible candidates must have a minimum of 3.8 high school GPA on a 4.0 scale. Transcripts must be postmarked or submitted with their application for admission by February 18, 2027.
  3. Priority given to those who attend a virtual and/or on-campus visit by February 18, 2027.
  4. A completed Zimpleman College of Business Dean Team application.

Business Dean Team Application

A FAFSA or an International Student Financial Information Form (ISFIF) is not required, but is strongly recommended as some donor-funded scholarships are based on need. Drake’s FAFSA code is 001860.

Undergraduate Scholarship Award Notifications: Notification of scholarship awards will occur by March 19, 2027 for those who submit their application by the priority deadline. The scholarship application will stay open until May 1, 2027 or until all funds have been awarded.
