The Crew Scholars Program strives to enrich the growth of young leaders as an individual and a cohort. We believe that Crew is a safe and judgment–free zone, where we are encouraged to speak our minds and be acknowledged by our fellow scholars. Crew advocates for students to access resources that will further their personal, academic and profession development. In efforts to unite and make change, Crew seeks to build life-long relationships with meaningful connections between students and faculty. As Crew Scholars we hold our self to a high standard and work to gain experience in navigating conflict with others. Lastly, to be successful, we will support one another in the process of moving forward.
Once you are part of the Crew, all scholars pledge to graduate from Drake and to provide positive encouragement and support to fellow Crew members. You'll also commit to participating in each component of the program.
The Crew Scholars program is now available to eligible incoming transfer students.
For a personalized application form, please contact Jazlin Coley, Director of the Crew Scholars Program atjazlin.coley@drake.edu.
For one day in the summer and for three days before Welcome Weekend in August, the Crew gathers to prepare for their transition to Drake. You'll get to know one another, set individual and group goals, discuss preparation strategies, and establish camaraderie. These crucial events create an important sense of group identity for the Crew and enable you to begin your studies with confidence and a sense of belonging. All expenses except travel are paid.
Throughout your first and second academic year, the entire Crew cohort meets weekly with program directors to develop strategies for academic success, discuss the unique experiences of students of color, and celebrate achievements.
