Any student, regardless of experience, is welcome to join a student-led research group. We've set aside Friday afternoons as time to explore interesting applications and the cutting-edge of technology.
The benefits of participating in a research group:
Letter of recommendation from professors.
Developing teambuilding skills.
Project-based learning that emphasizes developing cutting-edge skills and tools.
The opportunity to present your work at regional conferences.
Publishing research papers.
Students that participate in extra-curricular activities such as these are often the most marketable, sought-after students upon graduation.
Examples of student-led research in the department:
Mathematical modeling of hurricanes and weather development patterns.
Data science competitions involving machine learning -categorizing social media posts as cyber bullying
Virtual Reality -a baseball simulator that allows you to experience what it is like to try to hit a 100 mph fastball.
App Development -a VR app that serves as a virtual tour of Drake University.
