Great journalism happens in print, online, in podcasts, and on the radio and television. Drake’s Multimedia Journalism program equips you to communicate through all these formats with a curriculum that adapts to and incorporates the latest technologies available.

B.A.J.M.C. in Multimedia Journalism

Build job-ready skills through required courses in media editing, video production, web design or app development, statehouse reporting, and visual communication. After an all-encompassing, hands-on introduction, you’re advised to focus your electives toward a specialization in editing, advanced video reporting, documentary, studio production, sports producing, public affairs reporting, or advanced social media strategies.

Entering first-year students are eligible for several journalism and mass communication awards, including the Sheila A. Wolfe Award for Excellence in News Journalism and the Prof. Robert Woodward Endowed Scholarship for Multimedia Journalism Majors.

Sadie Jones, a second–year student from Minnesota, has already packed many valuable experiences into her time at Drake. The Multimedia Journalism major does video production for Drake Athletics and Drake Rec Services, serves both in front of and behind the camera for Drake Broadcasting System, and will intern at WCCO-TV in Minneapolis in 2025.
