At Drake, global perspective is built through connection. Our International Peer Mentorship Program is one of the ways we ensure every new international student feels welcomed, supported, and part of a vibrant community from day one.
Peer mentors—current Drake students—play a key role in helping incoming international students adjust to campus life. From orientation activities to social gatherings, gaming nights, and informal meetups, mentors create opportunities for students to build friendships, navigate new experiences, and feel at home in a new environment.
It’s not just about getting settled—it’s about building something meaningful. Through shared experiences, mentors and mentees exchange cultures, perspectives, and traditions, learning from one another in ways that go far beyond the classroom.
And the impact goes both ways. Mentors gain a deeper understanding of the world around them, growing in empathy, awareness, and confidence as global citizens.
The result? A campus community that feels smaller, more connected, and more like home—no matter where you’re coming from.
