Resources for Employers
Information below is for employers interested in posting jobs, recruiting, and connecting with Drake Law School students and graduates.
The Career Development Office is committed to assisting employers in meeting their staffing needs while promoting the recruitment of our students. We provide several avenues for employers to reach our students and alumni, from job postings and resume collection services to on-campus interviews - employers can pick the recruiting tool that works best for them.
With a highly competitive student body, distinguished faculty members, and premier academic and clinic programs, Drake Law School is committed to the highest standards in legal education and offers outstanding law students and graduates for summer and permanent employment.
Job Postings
There is never a charge for an employer to post a position on Symplicity or participate in any Drake Law CDO program or event. Employers can quickly and easily create a Symplicity account to post jobs and view applications. If you aren't sure your firm has an account or need help accessing it, or if you need assistance with posting your job, contact Lyra Halsten in the CDO.
On-Campus Interviews & Resume Collection
Drake Law School invites law firms and other legal employers to participate in our fall and spring on-campus interview (OCI) and resume collection programs. Employers can request a schedule on Symplicity or by contacting the CDO directly. There is no cost to recruit at Drake.
The CDO advertises opportunities and collects the desired application materials. Everything can be done electronically. Employers review resumes in advance and select students to interview. For employers interviewing on campus, Drake provides convenient interview rooms, free parking, and lunch. For Resume Collect or virtual interviews, we can support employers in creating a recruiting timeline convenient for them.
We welcome employers to campus to conduct interviews at any time. If your interview schedule is outside the formal OCI period, you can contact the CDO to make arrangements.

Employer Opportunities
Interview Facilities – All employers are welcome to schedule a time to use our interview facilities for student interviews, available year-round. Contact our office for more information.
Virtual Interviews – Recognizing that it is not always possible or practical for employers to travel to campus, video and phone conferencing facilities are available and supported through CDO.
Engage with Students - Employers interact with Drake Law students through many CDO events and programs outside the interview process. Information sessions, mock interviews, networking events, mentorship opportunities, and even a running/walking club are just a few of the ways that employers get to know Drake Law students. Contact the CDO to learn more about these opportunities.

Employer Policies & Procedures
Employers are expected to follow Drake Law School's policies, as stated below. Services of the Drake Law School Career Development Office are available only to employers whose employment practices are consistent with our policies. By your participation, you agree that your employment practices do not violate Drake Law School’s policies. If it is determined that an employer’s practices violate Drake Law School’s policies, we will not authorize the use of Drake’s Career Development Office by such employer or access may be rescinded.
The principles of equal access and equal opportunity require that all interactions within the University be free from invidious discrimination. Drake University therefore prohibits discrimination based upon race, color, national origin, creed, religion, age, disability, sex, pregnancy, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, genetic information, veteran status or any characteristic protected by law in its educational programs and activities, admissions, or employment.
Sexual harassment of students from Drake Law School under your employment is strictly prohibited.
Sexual harassment is defined as unwelcome advances, requests for sexual favors, or other unwelcome verbal or physical conduct aimed at another because of sex when:
- Submission to such conduct is made explicitly or implicitly a term or condition of an individual’s employment
- Submission to or rejection of such conduct is used as a basis for an employment decision affecting an individual
- Such conduct has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual’s work or educational performance or of creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment for work or learning.
These definitions are intended to be in accordance with federal and state law.
Drake Law encourages its students not to engage in employment for more than 20 hours per week in any semester in which the student is enrolled full-time.
The Career Development Office encourages first year law students to focus on academics, rather than the employment search, during the first semester of law school. Fall OCI is not open to 1L students, but 1L students are able to participate in OCI during the second (Spring) semester of law school. We do not allow 1L students access to online job postings until mid-October of the first year.
First year law students are able to participate in educational, networking, mentoring, and professional development programs at any time. Students are able to work with the Career Development Office upon entering Drake Law, but we encourage students to focus on adjusting to law school first and working with our office after the first month or two of the fall semester.
Unpaid internships may be posted by government or not-for-profit organizations. However, we do not post positions for law firms or for-profit companies that are unpaid, except in very limited circumstances, due to Department of Labor regulations.
