Physical keys and building access at Drake are issued through the Student Services Center. Students, faculty, and staff may need keys for residence halls, offices, labs, or other campus spaces. Access is issued with approval from the department or building key approver, picked up in person, and must be returned when no longer in use.
New Key Requests
How do faculty or staff get keys for a new hire?
Keys for new employees require approval from the appropriate department or building authority. Once approved, keys are prepared and released to the named keyholder.
Student keys are typically issued for housing, academic spaces, or approved campus roles. Access must be requested and approved by a department or building key approver before keys will be issued for pickup.
How do I pick up my keys?
Once keys are ready to be picked up, the individual the key was requested for will receive an email notification letting them know the key can be picked up. Keys must be picked up by the new keyholder, and a photo ID must be presented at time of pick-up.
Keys that are no longer needed
How do I return a key?
Keys must be returned when access is no longer required, including housing changes, role changes, or separation from the university. Returns may be made to the Student Services Center or designated key drop locations.
Unreturned Keys
All keys are the responsibility of the keyholders, and any unreturned keys will be subject to replacement fees, charged to a keyholder's account or final paycheck.
Fines for lost keys/lock changes can be paid at the Student Services Center.
