Drake's hometown, Des Moines—a hub of business, government, and culture—offers abundant opportunities for internships, professional growth, and careers. Des Moines is renowned as a hub for insurance and financial services, hosting Fortune 500 companies, and diverse industries.

First-year students can apply for the Wellmark BlueX: Technology Applied Learning Program, which will span 3.5 years of a student's time at Drake and provide a unique opportunity for career mentoring, professional development, and, eventually, a paid internship.

Sophomores can apply for the Vermeer Digital Bulldogs program, which consists of a one-credit mentorship course. Upon completing all graduation requirements, students in the program will be eligible to apply for future internships and employment.

Careers

Following graduation, IS majors may start their careers as application developers, IT consultants, project managers, database administrators, network administrators, business/data/systems analysts, information security leaders, or IT auditors. They will likely work in jobs that require a mix of business and technical expertise. Longer-term career paths may lead to managerial positions in IS or other areas outside the technology-related area.
